Back to Family Page                                                                                                                  Beautiful Places Around Here

This part of the world is really beautiful. I have to admit that I am maybe blinded by the fact that I have lived here most of my life. I have however traveled and been in many parts of the US for business and yes that may be not too fair as most of the time, I was in big cities and I know from experience that cities do not reflect what the place I am visiting is really all about. I have traveled around the entire coasts of the US and have gone back and forth through the middle 5 times from coast to coast. I have spent many vacations for extended periods of time in many areas.

Most areas have their unique beauty and drawbacks so what I find so attractive in my area of the US may not be what someone else would like. I hear all the time that there is so much rain in this area. And that is partly true. We have a lot of dark gray days with what we call drizzle or mist. But when it comes down to the number of inches per year we really are not at the top. Places like Miami Florida get more annual rain than Seattle does and so does New York City. Much of New York's is in the form of snow, which we seldom have. Maybe 2 or 3 inches a year and many years none at all. It is not too hot in the summer with 90 degrees being hot, and not very cold in the winter with just a few days around 32 degrees. August is usually the best time to visit.

I live in the lower Puget Sound area of the State of Washington. In a town called Lacey. We are just a small town next to a large military base called Fort Lewis. We are also less then 10 miles from Olympia the state capital. Outside of Seattle the state is so little known that most Americans could not tell you what the name of the state capital is for that matter.

We do not have many bugs, no poisonous snakes, no alligators, scorpions, or other scary critters. Outside of Seattle we have a very low crime rate. We do not have tornados, or hurricanes. We seldom even have high winds. We do have earthquakes ever 20 years or so, far less than in California. We have volcanoes and they go off ever 100 years or so, but they are in remote areas and unless you are visiting one when it goes off they are not a real danger.

We have mountains and ocean beaches. Rivers full of fish and many lakes. Seattle has been called the boating capital of the US as there are just about as many boats as people. You could easily go mountain skiing and ocean or river surfing all in one day. Wind surfing is getting to be a big time activity around here as fishing and hunting have been for years.

Because of places like Microsoft, Starbucks, Amazon and many many other high tech places this area is starting to look like the bay area of California in computer technology. All in all it is a great place to live with one of the continually top rated places to live by many sources nationwide. The education level of folks living around here is second to none and is normally rated number 1 or 2 in advanced degrees. Our medical facilities are also world renowned with many famous people coming her for treatment. Bone marrow transplants were pioneered at the Fred Hutcheson Hospital in Seattle.

I am going to place below some photos of beautiful places around here. I will add some from time to time, so come back often.

Ok these beautiful things are not in Lacey. But I think they are beautiful art. Pink Floyd album covers. I just wanted to see if you looked down the page this far. And no I don't think they are nasty.
