Media Coverage of War
I was watching a TV program the other day on
how things were during World War II (WWII). I have come to the
conclusion that we have not really been in a war from the time to today.
The recent conflicts just do not measure up at all to what things were
like then.
I
hear people talk all the time about how we lost the Vietnam War and what
we are doing in the Iraq War etc. In light of what the country did
during WWII we can scarcely call these conflicts “war”.
There is absolutely no
comparison to how the country responded to those conflicts in relation
to a real war. Had we reacted like we did in WWII during these recent
little conflicts is there any doubt in your mind that we could have
prevailed?
During
WWII corporations converted to war time production of materials, tanks,
planes, guns, etc. Where is this kind of activity today?
Now the companies who make
military products do so for profit only. No take over of their property
by the war department. There is no bond drives to support the war.
School children are not going around collecting scrap for the war
effort. There is no rationing so that needed supplies can be produced
for the war. There is even very little support for our service men other
than talk.
It seems that today
every network TV broadcast starts off with a comment like….” We killed
another 5 service men today in this needless war”. “That brings us to a
total of 3125 lives lost to date”.
We lost over 15,000 men
killed in just one battle in WWII and the press did not even mention it
until much later. We did not show pictures of the dead and injured each
day on TV screens and Internet. OK these things had not been invented
yet, but there were papers that almost everyone read, and magazines of
all kinds and they somehow loved their country more than the love of the
all mighty dollar as they do today.
There are endless
comments about Bush did this and Bush did that. The office of the
president of the county is now regulated to just Bush. Not President
Bush, or the President but Bush with emphasis being put on discussed for
the name. I may not agree with what he does, but he still is OUR
president and as such the office of the president of the country should
be shown more respect than what the national press does. And who cares
what a bunch of celebrities and movie actors think? Most of them have
very little education or real knowledge of what the world is all about
or how normal people live, but you would think they are some kind of
experts the way the press treats their opinions.
Apparently during
WWII the press kept things under wraps for the good of the country. They
were sensitive to the feelings and fears of the people of the country.
Now they will show anything just to scoop another network no matter how
damaging it may be. They no longer report the news they give opinions on
the news and sway the public in the direction they want the country to
go. Look at the moral values of those doing the writing in many of the
large media locations and you will see ultra liberals with an axe to
grind. And we the sheep we all believe them and follow their every word
as though it were absolute truth.
I am not sure we
can ever again sacrifice to win a war like we did in WWII. With the
outside influences like the press and media and a congress that is in
the pocket of big business, especially pharmaceuticals, insurance,
banking, the AMA, and big oil. Congress has become part of the problem
and not at all a way to represent the people. And we the people, as we
are called, are really just sheep being lead by herders. Sheep can be
herded by just about anyone with influence. Even dogs can herd sheep.
Shepherds on the other hand love their sheep and the sheep love the
shepherd. They can recognize his voice and will come to him. The
shepherd will do anything to protect his sheep including giving his
life.
In my opinion the
Congress and special interest groups, big unregulated business, the
press and media in general are the wolves of today. We need a shepherd
to lead us. Are you a shepherd?
