activated: Note: Pressing the PROC button in twice activates this (the red

Note: With any outboard EQ audio gear, this is NOT recommended.
However, if you are just using the radio, set Mic Gain 9 o'clock and
PROC 10 o'clock. Make sure that you stay within the ALC zone and keep
3 to 4 inches between your lips and the mic.

Here is a quick setup for the FTdx5000:
Put mic (audio) into #18 in the back using an RCA plug. Then Menu
103 is set on "front".
Put the WIDTH control all the way to the right (clockwise) and
put the SHIFT in the center. The WIDTH display will show 4kHz. Pushing in
the "reset" buttom goes back to 2.4kHz.
If using a footswitch to key the radio, put RCA plug into #14 PTT Jack.
Menu 036, Change it from "disable" to "enable", for Memory Groups.
Menu 066, Change it from "PITCH" to "FREQ" (this is to keep the
frequency readout the same when you change from SSB to CW).
Menu 172, Change from "DISABLE" to "ENABLE" ( this enables you to use
the LINEAR AMP).
Linear RCA plug goes into #17 in the back.
Record mini plug goes into #10 in the back (AF OUT).
SM-5000 Station Master goes into #21 in the back 13.8 VDC.
Remote Jack FH-2 goes into # 30 in the back. This enables direct access to
the CPU for
control of functions such as the audio playback feature, the contest memory
keyer, plus frequency and function control.

These are the basic settings to start with when using the Behringer Ultra
Curve 2496:
60 hZ at +10
80 hZ at -10
100 hZ at -15
125 hZ at -15
160 hZ at -15
200 hZ at -10
250 hZ at -10
315 hZ at -10
400 hZ at -10
500 hZ at -10
630 hZ at -6
800 hZ at -3
1kHz at +8
1.2 kHz at +10
1.6 kHz at +12
2 kHz at +5
3.2 kHz at +14
4 kHz at +10
You can put all the Bandwidths at 1, except 160 which is set to 1/3.

If using the W2IHY 8 Band EQ and the EQ Plus, it is highly
recommended to also use the W2IHY I-Box (pad down transformer).
These are the basic settings:
8 Band EQ:
50 +14
100 +6
200 -4
400 -4
800 -4
1600 +10
2400 +12
3200 +14

EQ Plus:
Bass 2 o'clock
Treble 1 o'clock
Compressor 12 o'clock
DE Level 2 o'clock
Impedence 200 (down position)
Effects:
Delay Fully Counterclockwise
Effects Level 10 o'clock
Effects Switch Up

Note: the W2IHY I-Plus was Beta tested by K3UR and
it will allow you to operate (3) different radios. It will
replace the I-Box and has a pad down transformer. It allows direct
keying of linear amp for 3 separate radios. It also has PTT, stereo
speaker setup and separate inputs of 5 pin din and also XLR. The (3)
audio outs are all 5 pin din.

Start with a good mic and use good quality headphones and monitor yourself.
I use the Sennheiser MD-421 Studio Mic and the Sony MDR-V700 DJ headphones
with 50mm drivers) .
I do NOT use the internal EQ on the FTdx5000, because I use outboard audio
gear.

Note: when graphing and or recording another station, It is advisable to use the 6K roofing filter.

Contact me for an "on the air" QSO, recording and graphing of your
audio and I will email you the before and after mp3 files and the
SpectraPlus graphs of your audio. Thank you.
